When I read Nic Tatano s debut novel last year I thought it was amaaaaazing Wing Girl even made it into my top 15 reads of 2013 and quite easily makes it into my favourite books ever It really was THAT good It all just clicked for me, so I was obviously very pleased to hear Nic was writing a second novel and I was even happier to receive an early copy of Boss Girl to review, because I expectedof the same from Nic ballsy heroines, who aren t afraid to take on men and win, characters yo When I read Nic Tatano s debut novel last year I thought it was amaaaaazing Wing Girl even made it into my top 15 reads of 2013 and quite easily makes it into my favourite books ever It really was THAT good It all just clicked for me, so I was obviously very pleased to hear Nic was writing a second novel and I was even happier to receive an early copy of Boss Girl to review, because I expectedof the same from Nic ballsy heroines, who aren t afraid to take on men and win, characters you root for and love from page one and while Boss Girl DID offer all of that, I can t really say I was sold on the premise of the novel I thought it was a bit icky, actually. It says a lot about an author s writing when I can easily find the premise of a novel icky, but still overall enjoy the book, and this is what happened here The premise made me feel really grossed out, because I am a girl who likes her novels simple I like my heroine to meet her hero and for there to be a happy ever after I do not like a heroine who freely sleeps around with men a younger than her and b who her best friends have also slept with It s hicky It s gross It made my head explode, if I m honest, all these women sharing around these men as if they were prime cuts of meat which they were I totally understand where Nic was coming from with the plot after all, it s what men have done for decades, but it s the sort of thing where if a man men does it, it s OK well, not OK, but it s acceptable and if a woman women do it, then they re promiscous and easy That s how life is, and that s how women are seen if they do what Sydney and co do and I just honestly didn t like it.I ll be honest, I would have loved the novel wayif it had less of the bed hopping andof the initial premise of younger men paired on the news with older women I just thought it sort of lost its high horse when all the women were sleeping with all the men But apart from that, it was a fantastic premise and I do love how Nic A MAN gives us strong, independent women who aren t afraid to go for what they want and, kudos, Sydney did go for what she wanted I loved that the females were all sticking up for themselves, and banding together, I just so wished it had been on something other than men being treated as playthings I just couldn t get away from that, I so wanted to adore this novel as much as Wing Girl and I would have, if I didn t feel a bit offended on behalf of the men believe it or not Some of these men sounded so decent especially Shawn, and Scott wasn t so bad, I ll be honest, there were a great cast of characters and I have to admit I did enjoy the courtroom battle, it was fun to see Sydney and all her friends tearing the opposition to shreds. There were moments to savour, Sydney is actually a fantastic narrator, and I adored her friends Rica, Jillian, and Neely They were just as ballsy, just as outspoken as Belinda and co in Wing Girl we even had some fugeddaboutit s which are always awesome and I ALWAYS try to say it in a New York accent, even though I am RUBBISH at accents Nic Tatano is a fantastic writer, it amazes me so much that this man can tap into the head of a woman and write the kind of women characters that make me cheer loudly for, the type that many female Chick Lit authors just can t seem to grasp Gemma Burgess also writes kick ass female characters if you like kick ass female characters like I do Boss Girl had an interesting premise, that will no doubt be a massive hit with some people, it just doesn t sit well with my sensibilities Apart from that, though, I did enjoy it and I love that Nic has used his newsroom background to give us a look into that business, it s super fascinating I was rather thrilled to see that Nic will have another new book out this year called It Girl and I will eagerly await it, because he is an amazing writer, and I can t say that enough It s just the premise wasn t for me

I should have loved this book After all, men have been discriminating against women in the broadcasting industry for years It is past time they had a taste of their own medicine, right If you re in doubt, watch Miss Representation, an astounding documentary that touches on this But the women in this book take it way too far, making the story unsavory and hard to swallow. The story A network for women, by women, about women has decided to do away with the timeless habit of displacing women o I should have loved this book After all, men have been discriminating against women in the broadcasting industry for years It is past time they had a taste of their own medicine, right If you re in doubt, watch Miss Representation, an astounding documentary that touches on this But the women in this book take it way too far, making the story unsavory and hard to swallow. The story A network for women, by women, about women has decided to do away with the timeless habit of displacing women over 35 No longer are they going to be put out to pasture when they get crow s feet while men are allowed to look however they please Gone are the beauty queens and in is the older woman younger man Finally, men are experiencing age discrimination and sexual harassment too.Great premise, but the ladies in this story take the SH thing too far, forcing the men to have sex with them constantly in a loft above the studio in order to maintain their jobs.I m sorry, but that s gross and I m not double standarding It s gross for men and women both They have a cleaning service change the sheets constantly, they have that much sex, swapping partners constantly, sharing menAnd this brings me to my second complaint this is not the average American woman as the book seems to want us to believe of these heroines The average American woman does NOT look like a Sports Illustrated model and I grew so sick and tired of every single woman character being described as such Really And we want sex every five minutes For real Not a winner for me, though I will admit the basic idea was terrific The narrator was funny too Callous and vulgar but funny

Boss Girl is a second Nic Tatano s book and the first that I ve read To be totally honest, I am not sure why I haven t read Wing Girl yet, it s absolutely time to catch on this oversight I am always so curious to read chick lit through the man s point of view Can be really interesting Boss Girl is about four women working in the TV industry very successful women who know what they want from life and their work, and most of all they want MEN Young, handsome, beautiful men They are like m Boss Girl is a second Nic Tatano s book and the first that I ve read To be totally honest, I am not sure why I haven t read Wing Girl yet, it s absolutely time to catch on this oversight I am always so curious to read chick lit through the man s point of view Can be really interesting Boss Girl is about four women working in the TV industry very successful women who know what they want from life and their work, and most of all they want MEN Young, handsome, beautiful men They are like men eaters to be honest. The book is told from the point of view of Sydney, who realises that women don t want to watch your typical older, wiser, serious male journalist and his anchor colleague, younger, sillier, flirtatious bimbo They want this other way round matured woman journalist plus younger, sexy stud And so, when it happens that they are going to launch a brand new TV station, Sydney and her friends get the one in the world chance to create dream teams To get a job the men must not only look good, they must also be good in bed and Sydney and her three friends Jillian, Neely and Rica are going to judge their prospects Pass the bed test, look good and you have the job, young man.At the beginning I wasn t sure I wasn t sure if heroines going and sleeping around with men, and then sharing those men between themselves is going to be my thing I have never met something like this in my books and I felt unsure Didn t know what to think, how to judge the girls, what to think about the men It was a little too uncomfortable for me, the women treating those men like a piece of fresh meat but then I thought, hey, what is actually your problem If the men do this on everyday basis it is acceptable but if women do the same it is not Why not So relax a little, put your feet on your coffee table and enjoy this read. And so I did.I got used to the sex made in the loft, to the girls deciding who is going to sleep with whom, and even got used to those men who actually agreed to do this To the fact that they were hired basically on their looks and how good they are in bed Because why shouldn t I enjoy it The four friends are at least honest They don t bury their heads in the sand and they say how the things are, whereas how is it with men How many of them would dare to admit that the girl got the job because she slept with him The writing was sharp, engaging and clever Nic Tatano is for sure a very talented writer He has a way with words and what he writes is very interesting I had only some issues with the trial itself, some of the behaviours of the judge and the jury were too obvious, too predictable and too unrealistic The whole process was a little too exaggerated for me, I don t know if such hearings belong to courtroom The plot can be controversial and I think not all of the readers can find it amusing but other than that I don t think I have any reasons to be unhappy with Boss Girl It is not offending, it is just sharp and written in a brutally honest way So now to read Nic s previous novel and wait for his next one.I received a copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a review

Boss Girl is empowering and hilarious I laughed so much at this book even out loud The main thing with Boss Girl is not to take it too seriously, at face value, this is escapism at its best, and as a woman, approaching the age of the women in this book, I would have liked nothing better to be in their positions The jobs sound like a lot of fun for a single woman looking for a good time Sydney Hack, is trailblazer for television She is the vice president of a news programme, with failing ra Boss Girl is empowering and hilarious I laughed so much at this book even out loud The main thing with Boss Girl is not to take it too seriously, at face value, this is escapism at its best, and as a woman, approaching the age of the women in this book, I would have liked nothing better to be in their positions The jobs sound like a lot of fun for a single woman looking for a good time Sydney Hack, is trailblazer for television She is the vice president of a news programme, with failing ratings, until she works out what a largely neglected demographic want. over thirty women She decides to change the anchor team on her news show by making the anchor team a mature 35 year old woman, and a young, in his twenties man Which is of course the complete opposite of traditional news teams of the young girl and older man And of course Sydney decides that in order to sell a lifestyle, she needs to check the references of any young man trying to work for her When the ratings go up, and she syndicates it to her best friends across America similar trends are noticed To the extent that the network decide on a rebrand to CGR, and featuring women and men that fit into this demographic set There is a lot of sex referenced, although very little shown fully or in detail The implications are that the men and women are at it complete with partner swapping, and general female dominance So long as you have an open mind, and enjoy the thought of traditional role reversal, in men being treated like pieces of meat, instead of women, this is an entertaining book Topics such as discrimination come up, but Sydney and her girls, stand by everything they do, and the ratings show what they are up to must be good Arguably some of what goes on in this book could be described as controversial, but whether you agree with it or not, it is very engaging and I was completely hooked by the story, and some of the backlash to the network is hilarious Boss Girl features strong female characters, who frankly are an inspiration to me, in a sexual way Nic Tatano with this girl series, always seems to create memorable leading ladies, in books steeped in humour and good times And this was definitely no exception I loved Boss Girl so much I didn t want it to end It is quite unlike most of books of the romantic comedy genre that I have read, in that the main romance isn t even the main character, but it does deal with the relationships between men and women, and that is always a fun topic

I was provided with a complimentary copy of Boss Girl in exchange for an honest review Nic Tatano is a new to me author and I have been intrigued for many years by the male author s perspective in the chick lit genre I find the story lines refreshing and daring so if you are hesitating to read a chick lit by a male author, let me stop you right there and save you from making a very big mistake. With Boss Girl, Mr Tatano takes the age old casting couch mentality and hurls it out the window in I was provided with a complimentary copy of Boss Girl in exchange for an honest review Nic Tatano is a new to me author and I have been intrigued for many years by the male author s perspective in the chick lit genre I find the story lines refreshing and daring so if you are hesitating to read a chick lit by a male author, let me stop you right there and save you from making a very big mistake. With Boss Girl, Mr Tatano takes the age old casting couch mentality and hurls it out the window in a bold and hilarious manner by putting women in the dominant positions for a change It s about time, I say Men have been using this tactic for years and it s high time the tables were turned, so to speak Men who want to work for these women now find themselves being required to sleep with these women as part of their job It should come as no surprise to anyone that these men are completely willing participants This story centers mainly on Sydney Hack, the VP of a network struggling to compete in the ratings market She decides to start pairing older female anchors that can t get hired anywhere else because of their age with younger, hot men, regardless of their resume The only references Sydney and her best friends want to check are those in the boudoir The secondary characters of Rica, Neely and Jillian bring this story to hilarious levels as these women are all sampling the offerings and even have a draft event to decide who gets who.I didn t know what to expect when I first read the description but I decided to keep an open mind My first thought was this sounds like erotica, but it s not For a story that features sex as the main plot device, there are no crude, graphic or descriptive play by play narratives Mr Tatano does a brilliant job of giving the reader just enough for their imagination to kick in with the rest The characters are amazing, strong, successful women who want what all women want To be accepted, respected and treated well To be judged on merits and successes, not on bra size or age This story also is about relationships the ones that are difficult and the ones that occur when they least expect it.So, what are you waiting for Get out there and get this book I am looking forward to reading everything Nic Tatano writes If you want a story with strong characters, sassy dialogue and hilarious plots, Boss Girl is an excellent choice
