Not as good as his 1st Cyberforce Chapters 1 3 are great The last two chapters just blows Although the ending leaves it open I would be interested in reading the rest. Image fans will remember this shiny, perky team from the 90s, but they definitely didn t look like this This is a very gritty reboot that changes everything we once knew about them, save for that fact that they are still cyborgs Formerly soldiers of a corrupt leadership, Morgan Stryker s team are escaped refugees, struggling with their cybernetic implants Meanwhile, the evil corporation is set on weeding out the less fortunate and the obsolete in order to usher in a new era of blah blah blah Image fans will remember this shiny, perky team from the 90s, but they definitely didn t look like this There are some mildly interesting twists and turns and its great to have Marc Silvestri s art back, but otherwise, the story is fairly typical and filled with lots of violence, epic posing and cheesy one liners In other words, it s a reboot that tries to bring this story into the new century by beingbrutal, but is still solidly grounded in the 90s superhero style of storytelling. The entire five issue series and this volume are available for free on Comixology thanks to Kickstarter funding I got this ebook as part of the Humble Comics Bundle Sex Science by Top Cow, but I was worried that it would depend too much on the original run of cyberforce, so I was not planning to read it I only did so because of a recommendation by Matt Hawkins on the back pages of Aphrodite IX Rebirth, Vol 2 to read it before I go to Aphrodite IX Cyber Force 1.Starting with the positive, though the story was a bit confusing at first, once I got used to the jumps in time, it was actually built quite I got confusing at first, once I got used to the jumps in time, it was actually built quite well I enjoyed learning the background story of how the whole Aphrodite Protocol started, and I liked the twists and turns of the plot, especially in the end.I did not like especially how the characters were built Whether this is true or not, too many times I felt like I am missing because I did not know the characters beforehand Some characters are very briefly introduced, and I found myself turning back to that introduction page several times just to see who is who To top that, a large number of the named characters don t survive for long enough and it felt like they were there just because they had to be mentioned to connect to the original series. In general I liked the art, except in some of the fights when it was too confusing to understand what was going on It wasn t amazing, compared to Stjepan eji work I just enjoyed before that, but it was adequate.Over all, this is quite a nice volume, though nothing spectacular It was worth the time, and I would certainly read the next one Three stars out of five I think its interesting that Top Cow chose to make the original 90 s Aphrodite IX run still cannon, but reboot Cyberforce in its entirety I need to sit down at some point and compare the 2 different versions, but I seriously doubt it will be a patch on this Cyberforce Rebirth, at least this 1st volume, is very impressive ProsIt takes the mostly threadbare backstory of the Aphrodite comics, and start to give it a solid foundationArt is very nice, and fits the tone of this volume doesn t contain much in the way of filler, and is slick Its contains a good mix of action, and intrigueOne of the main villains reminds me of a mix of Red Skull and Karl Ruprect Kroenen from the 2004 Hellboy Movie ConsMy only real disappointment was the supporting cast Only a few of the members of Cyberforce really get any back group expansion, and even then, its mostly Stryker.Worth giving this a go References to 47 Yes, please Also a computer wired to every smartphone on the planet via an app, enabling astronomical calculations that can predict the future An extinction of the human race because of the imminent depletion of natural resources A man determined to use his organization to kill the human race and rebuild it as something better Several hard as nails, no nonsense characters and one child willing to save the planet Sounds good to me.The story is heavy on the text, but little References to 47 Yes, please Also a computer wired to every smartphone on the planet the text, but little of it seems superfluous This universe is complex and it s presented to the reader bit by bit with flashbacks and dialogue Only half way is it clear what the direction is and, even though the good guys win, the road to that victory is worth treading I didn t read the original series, but this one feels farmature than anything mainstream from the 90 s Even the first arc is lengthy, involves several characters and pivotal events The artwork is also of a high caliber, gritty and bloody.CDI s Project Aphrodite is intended to create a utopia on Earth after triggering an almost complete eradication of life Carin, the daughter of the project s designer finds out about this and, defying her parents, sets out in search of Morgan Stryker view spoiler She meets the members of an old team of cybernetically enhanced humans, but an attack by SHOCs, this world s police, kill of several of them while led by Aphrodite Ripclaw and Ares are left alive Carin also finds her dad, Stryker, who helps them hide Aphrodite tracks them and switches to their side Carin s sister, Ballistic, also joins them.Their goal is to stop the first phase of Project Aphrodite, so they confront their creators, reaching a Mexican standoff The computations of their super computer still predict the project will complete successfully even if the project s creators are dead, but not if Stryker dies, confounding everyone Ultimately, Stryker kills the project leader, allowing his wife to take his place hide spoiler I would probably give this a three and a half, though I wish they didn t feel years ago It s definitely not a rebirth, as far as I can tell It slike a twisted version of the original Worth flipping over for Marc Silvestri s artwork, but otherwise, it s skippable.
